Getting started

First run: a safe baseline

Open the Optimizer and begin with the All view. Read each description, use the information control where it is available, and stage only the settings you understand. Do not use an optimization app to compensate for an unstable driver, an overheating system, or a full system drive.

1. Check Windows Update and your graphics driver first.
2. Close only background apps you recognise.
3. Apply a small group of related settings, then play the same scenario before changing more.

Performance

Frame consistency before peak FPS

A higher peak FPS does not always feel smoother. Background CPU load, overlays, and scheduled tasks can create uneven frame delivery. Compare like-for-like gameplay runs with the same game area, graphics settings, and driver state.

1. Remove known background load before changing system settings.
2. Change one category at a time and record how the game feels.
3. If performance drops, restore the last change instead of stacking more tweaks.

Display

Build a calmer SDR profile

Colour control should make the display more comfortable and readable. Use the before/after preview as a direction, then validate it in your own game and desktop lighting. Avoid large saturation or black-equalizer jumps that hide detail.

1. Adjust brightness for your room first.
2. Make small contrast and gamma changes, then pause to compare.
3. Keep a profile you can restore before testing a more stylised look.

Uninstaller

Review software before removing it

Verified publisher information and the location button help identify a desktop application, but an unverified entry is not automatically malicious. Check the publisher, version, and folder before starting the registered Windows uninstaller.

1. Open the location when it is available to confirm what the entry belongs to.
2. Do not remove drivers, runtimes, or anti-cheat components unless you know their purpose.
3. Review Removal history if Windows asks for a restart or another confirmation.

Browser extensions

Keep extensions intentional

Extensions are listed by browser and profile so you can see exactly where each one is installed. Prefer the readable extension name and its own description over its technical folder identifier.

1. Check every browser profile you actively use.
2. Keep extensions that you recognise and still need.
3. Close the browser only when ResoTweak asks for it before removal.

Resolution profiles

Let a game use its own display mode

Open Resolution, choose an installed game, then pick its aspect ratio, resolution, and refresh rate. Set & Play applies that profile immediately before launch. When the game closes, ResoTweak restores the desktop resolution and refresh rate that were active before launch.

1. Use 16:9 for the native shape of your monitor.
2. For competitive 4:3, enable Stretch to full screen; GPU scaling must also be set to full-screen in your graphics driver.
3. Use Set to save a profile without launching the game.

If a game ignores its profile, fully close it first. ResoTweak updates supported game launch settings before starting the next session.
